What we define with the client before building a custom app
A useful app starts with a clear job. Before discussing screens and features, explain who will use it and what they need to accomplish.
Describe the users and records
List the types of users, the information they manage, and who can view or change it. Provide sample records that contain no confidential data.
Identify the essential actions
Explain how a record is created, reviewed, updated, and completed. Include searches, reports, imports, exports, and important exceptions.
Discuss storage and maintenance
Decide what access, backup, device, and integration requirements matter. Identify who will maintain the app and what handover support will be needed.
Agree on acceptance criteria
Describe how you will know the app supports the workflow. Concrete examples make the scope easier to review and help prevent misunderstandings.
